Visual Arts

Every artist was first an amateur.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Curriculum and instruction in the Visual Arts at Mount de Sales, as in every other discipline at the school, seeks to integrate the arts with the Catholic faith. The beautiful fine arts studio space boasts soaring ceilings and a wonderful light that pours through spacious windows.

Whether in basic drawing classes or advanced portfolio, students are taught to think independently, reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their own work and the work of others, to exercise self-discipline and self-control, and to understand the importance of the visual arts in relation to faith, history, culture, and other disciplines. The goal of every course is to teach students to communicate a knowledge of the structures and functions of art while exploring a variety of artistic media.
