- The Religious Dimension of Education in a Catholic School, Congregation for Catholic Education

“Although Christian life consists in loving God and doing his will, intellectual work is intimately involved….The light of Christian faith impels the mind to learn with careful order and precise methods, and to work with a sense of responsibility.”

An Authentic Catholic Education

An authentic Catholic education is by definition one in which academic excellence is central. At Mount de Sales, we seek to provide a rigorous course of studies for young women where they can learn both the joy of intellectual inquiry as well as the perseverance required in true study. As a school infused with the Dominican charism of “Veritas” (truth), Mount de Sales grounds its academic program in the principle that truth can be known and that its pursuit can be a source of exhilaration and joy.

Our curriculum is traditional college preparatory rooted in the liberal arts and carries with it high expectations and a challenging work load. While we encourage our students to develop independence and responsibility for their own work as they learn and mature, our teachers are also committed to offering students the individual attention and assistance they need to succeed. With a low student-to-teacher ratio (average class size is 16 students), the classrooms are a familial place where each young woman is known by her peers and her teachers. The advantage of a single-sex atmosphere allows each student to discover her gifts, growing in knowledge and confidence as she pursues the ultimate aim of a Catholic education: to become the young woman God has created her to be.
