Jenny Held Miller '89
Though Jenny Held Miller started her Mount de Sales Academy sports involvement cheering from the sideline, she quickly made the transition to competition star. As the daughter of MDSA Hall of Fame Coach, Bill Held (inducted 2008), much was expected of Jenny and much was accomplished.
Jenny was a four-year-three-sport athlete, playing basketball, lacrosse and soccer, and was liberally honored for her efforts. She was named Association of Independent Schools Lacrosse Player of the Year three times (1987, 1988, 1989); Captain of the AIS West All Star Lacrosse Team (1987, 1988, 1989); MDSA MVP; Baltimore Sun Player of the Week; two-time Catonsville Times Player of the Year; three-year MDSA Lacrosse Captain; Friendship Tournament Most Valuable Player; McCormick Unsung Hero for Basketball; two-year MDSA Soccer Captain.
Post Mount de Sales Academy, Jenny played lacrosse on a scholarship at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. While there, she was named East Coast Conference Player of the Year and UMBC Female Athlete of the year in 1992.
In 1995, Jenny was named the first head coach for the Mount St. Mary’s University women’s lacrosse program. She later returned to MDSA to help coach the Varsity and JV lacrosse teams.
Jenny resides in Marriottsville with her husband John and their three children, Amanda, Carly, and John.
