Dr. Cynthia Clark '02

Being at the forefront was a hallmark of Dr. Cynthia Clark’s athletic career at Mount de Sales Academy. For four years her name appeared on top of the lineup card as the lead-off batter for the softball team providing the start the team needed. And what a start she gave the Sailors!

Cynthia had a .375 batting average and a .727 slugging average offensively. On the defensive side of the diamond, she held a .975 field mark at first base and as catcher. For her first three years at MDSA she covered first base, but being a team player, she moved from first base to catcher in her senior year when there was need to fill that crucial spot.

In her second sport, swimming, taking first place was also a familiar occurrence. Her biggest win came when she swam to the 100-yard breaststroke title in 2000.

Her softball performances led to her recognition as a member of The Baltimore Sun All Metro first team (2001 and 2002); The Sun’s All Baltimore County 1st team (2000, 2001, 2002); and Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland All Star team for Softball and Swimming.

After graduating from Mount de Sales, Cynthia attended the University of Maryland, College Park and added rowing to her athletic resume.

Dr. Clark is currently a clinical audiologist at the University of Virginia Medical Center where she is the coordinator of the Newborn Hearing Screening Program and is a member of the cochlear implant team. Her athletic participation continues as she is a long distance runner who has qualified for the Boston Marathon.
